Jaw Dropping Admission as Ohio Representative Says He’s Focused on Somalia Not Ohio

Sometimes a politician accidentally tells the truth. Other times, they just say it out loud and assume nobody will notice. Democrat Rep. Ismail Mohamed of Ohio did the latter, and the clip is jaw dropping.

In an appearance on Somali National Television, Mohamed openly stated that his goal is to elect more Somali officials across the United States so they can lobby on behalf of Somalia. Not Ohio. Not the United States. Somalia. He even referred to Somalia as “our country,” leaving absolutely no ambiguity about where his loyalties lie.

Let that sink in for a moment. An elected official in the United States, holding office thanks to American voters, went on foreign television and explained that his mission is to organize a political bloc inside America to advance the interests of another country. If this were a Republican saying the same thing about literally any other nation, the media would be screaming about foreign influence until they passed out.

Mohamed’s remarks aired on August 14, 2025, just months before the Somali linked fraud scandals in Minnesota exploded into national headlines. Billions of taxpayer dollars are now under federal investigation for alleged fraud tied to Somali networks exploiting public programs. Against that backdrop, his comments look even worse. This was not a slip of the tongue. It was a statement of purpose.

“Our main objective is to discuss things that concern Somalia,” Mohamed said. “It is our country, our people. Our aim is a united front to lobby for Somalia.” He even thanked the network for giving him the platform before saying, “We are going home.” Apparently, home is not Ohio.

This raises a question that should not be controversial. Who exactly is he representing? Members of Congress and state legislators swear an oath to uphold the Constitution and serve the American people. They are not elected to function as overseas lobbyists using U.S. political power as leverage for foreign governments or foreign causes.

And yes, this matters. Representation is about loyalty. You can be proud of your heritage without declaring allegiance to another nation while holding American office. Millions of immigrants manage to do that just fine. What Mohamed described is not cultural pride. It is political alignment.

Is this grounds for removal from office? At the very least, it should trigger serious scrutiny. If an elected official openly states that his policy goals are centered on another country, voters deserve to know and respond accordingly.

There is also a very practical question here. If Somalia is truly “our country,” and its problems are the priority, why not go back and help fix them there? Why use American institutions, American voters, and American tax dollars as tools to influence outcomes elsewhere?

This episode exposes something Democrats usually deny exists. There are politicians who see America not as a nation to serve, but as a platform to be exploited. When they admit it this clearly, the response should not be silence. It should be accountability.
