For years we’ve watched the fentanyl crisis rip through American communities while the so called experts wrung their hands and held another panel discussion on cable TV. Every election cycle they promised action, then shrugged when the numbers climbed higher. So imagine the look on their faces this week when FBI Director Kash Patel stepped up to a podium and dropped a bombshell that actually qualifies as real progress. Not theoretical progress, not a task force, not a blue ribbon committee. Actual action.
Patel announced that the pipeline used to create fentanyl has been shut down at its source. The precursors, the chemicals, the shadowy companies playing middleman for the cartels, the whole toxic assembly line, cut off. And this didn’t happen by accident. It happened because President Trump and his team did the thing no one else seemed to have the nerve to do. They went straight to China, the place where fentanyl’s deadly ingredients begin, and told them the days of looking the other way were over.

China has now designated all 13 fentanyl precursors. Every single one. That means they are controlled, tracked, restricted and no longer floating around for any cartel with a suitcase full of cash. Seven chemical subsidiaries tied to fentanyl production are also being restricted. Considering that these companies supplied the lifeblood of drug labs in Mexico, this is not a symbolic gesture. This is a chokehold on the entire industry.
Our team just returned from an important trip through Asia to build on our key partnerships and work together on stopping threats before they reach American shores.
One of the most important stops we had on this trip was in China to address the fentanyl crisis – an issue…
— FBI Director Kash Patel (@FBIDirectorKash) November 12, 2025
Patel said it clearly. These substances are now banned and cartels will not be able to use them to cook the poison that has been killing close to 100,000 Americans every year. And he credited President Trump directly for this breakthrough. His face to face meeting with Xi Jinping just weeks ago set the table. Patel’s own trip to China sealed the deal. For the first time in a decade, an FBI Director met with his Chinese counterpart on this issue, which tells you how seriously this administration is taking the crisis.
The best part is how simple the logic is. If you target the precursors, you starve the cartel’s supply chain. If you starve the supply chain, the product never reaches the border. It never hits the streets. It never ends up in the hands of another American kid whose life didn’t need to end.
So now we have something rare. Actual results. Not speeches. Not promises. A real dent in the fentanyl machine. This is what strong leadership looks like, and once again it’s coming from President Trump’s team.
