President Trump Just Shut Down Biden’s Secret Order Benefitting Kamala Harris

President Trump has officially revoked Secret Service protection for former Vice President Kamala Harris, ending a taxpayer-funded security detail that had been quietly extended beyond the legal limit.

Under federal law, former vice presidents receive Secret Service protection for six months after leaving office. Harris’ protection was due to expire on July 21, 2025. However, CNN revealed that just before leaving office, Joe Biden signed an undisclosed directive extending her protection for an additional year — a move that was never made public until now.

On Thursday, Trump canceled Biden’s order with a memorandum addressed to the Secretary of Homeland Security. “You are hereby authorized to discontinue any security-related procedures previously authorized by Executive Memorandum, beyond those required by law, for the following individual, effective September 1, 2025: Former Vice President Kamala D. Harris,” the letter read.

The White House and Secret Service have not yet issued comments on the decision.

The revocation comes at a delicate time for Harris, who is preparing to re-enter the public spotlight with a multi-city book tour for her upcoming memoir, 107 Days, set to be released on September 23. The book recounts her brief presidential campaign and is expected to include stops in New York City, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles. Without federal protection, Harris will now be responsible for arranging her own security.

Critics of the original extension argued that taxpayers were footing the bill for unnecessary luxury. “Having her escorted to go shopping at fancy stores had been a waste of our tax dollars,” one commentator posted on X following the announcement. Many conservatives praised Trump’s decision as a matter of fairness and fiscal responsibility, noting that her husband, Doug Emhoff, already lost his Secret Service detail in July.

Meanwhile, Harris supporters warn that removing her protection ahead of a high-profile book tour could put her safety at risk. They argue that the extension Biden authorized was justified, given her history in the public eye and continued political profile.

The Secret Service notes on its website that former presidents and their spouses receive lifetime protection, while vice presidents are limited to six months after leaving office “unless otherwise directed.” With Trump’s revocation now in effect, Harris’ protection will officially end on September 1.

For Trump, the move fits squarely within his campaign to cut government waste. For Harris, it means navigating her return to the spotlight without the shield of taxpayer-funded security.
