Of all the people caught in the crossfire of the Trump–Musk feud, few have had a front-row seat quite like Senator Ted Cruz. While pundits, politicians, and blue-check “experts” ran wild on cable news and Twitter dissecting the billionaire-vs-president drama, Cruz wasn’t reading the headlines—he was in the Oval Office when it all blew up.

“I was sitting in the Oval as this unfolded. Trump was pissed. He was venting,” Cruz said on his latest episode of Verdict with Ted Cruz. According to the New York Post, Cruz witnessed the moment President Trump got wind of Elon Musk’s unhinged social media barrage—and let’s just say, it didn’t go over well.
Cruz described Trump’s reaction in real time: “I was sitting there, and the tweets were coming…. Elon was saying some really harsh things.” That’s putting it mildly. Musk had just declared Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” —a monumental piece of legislation focused on tax cuts, American jobs, and economic sanity—“disgusting.” Because apparently, nothing says “tech genius” like taking potshots at the only president in modern history to actually prioritize American workers over globalist handouts.
Musk didn’t stop there. He actually claimed, with zero humility, “Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate.” Okay, Elon. Settle down. The guy’s clearly been reading his own press releases a little too closely.
Cruz, who counts both men as personal friends, called the public flameout “incredibly painful.” And while he tried to strike a diplomatic tone, the facts speak for themselves. One man is the leader of the America First movement, the Republican Party, and quite literally the front-runner for 2024. The other makes electric cars and sends rockets into space but just can’t seem to stop tweeting like a 14-year-old with a Reddit grudge.
As for a reconciliation? Don’t hold your breath. When asked by Fox News, President Trump didn’t mince words: “Elon’s totally lost it.” He even dismissed Musk’s veiled threats about forming a new political party, brushing it off with classic Trump confidence—citing sky-high GOP support and favorable polling.
Bottom line: Trump doesn’t need Musk. The Republican base doesn’t want another tech billionaire telling them how to vote. And if Musk wants to play political kingmaker, he might want to start by not burning bridges with the only guy who’s actually built something in D.C.
