President Trump made headlines again Friday, telling reporters that Barack Obama “owes him big” following the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling on presidential immunity. The ruling, originally viewed as a major win for Trump amid his legal battles over January 6, may now ironically shield Obama from prosecution related to his role in the Russia collusion hoax — a hoax that Trump says amounts to treason.
The remarks came in the wake of bombshell revelations from Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who released a declassified December 2016 presidential briefing confirming what many suspected for years: Barack Obama knew the Trump-Russia narrative was a lie — and pushed it anyway.
Trump didn’t hold back at Tuesday’s press conference. “Barack Hussein Obama is the ringleader,” he declared. “Hillary Clinton was right there with him, and so was Sleepy Joe Biden, and so were the rest of them: Comey, Clapper, the whole group.”
According to Gabbard, the declassified documents expose a “years-long coup and treasonous conspiracy against the American people”, directed from the highest levels of the Obama White House. She confirmed Wednesday that the Department of Justice is actively investigating the matter, including criminal acts allegedly committed by Obama himself.
But here’s the kicker — thanks to the Supreme Court’s presidential immunity ruling, Obama may be legally protected from prosecution for official acts while in office. A ruling meant to stop Biden’s politically motivated prosecutions of Trump might have just become Obama’s legal lifeline.
When asked if the immunity ruling applied to Obama, Trump replied, “It probably helps him a lot… He’s done criminal acts, there’s no question about it, but he has immunity. He owes me big. Obama owes me big!”
Though immunity might cover Obama, Trump was quick to point out that it doesn’t protect his accomplices — like James Comey, John Brennan, and others in the intelligence community. “It doesn’t help the people around him at all,” he said.

Meanwhile, the DOJ confirmed this week it has launched a “strike force” to investigate the alleged weaponization of intelligence during the Obama era. In a rare move, the department acknowledged that the matter is “of the utmost seriousness.”
So while Obama may get off on a legal technicality, the walls may still be closing in around the rest of the coup crew. And Trump? He’s not letting this one go anytime soon.
