Trump Targets Thomas Massie, Urges Primary Challenge in Kentucky Showdown

Trump Puts Thomas Massie on Notice—Calls for Primary Challenge in Kentucky

If there’s one thing members of Congress should understand by now, it’s that crossing President Trump comes with consequences. And Rep. Thomas Massie just found that out the hard way.

In a scathing Truth Social post, Trump blasted Massie for his “grandstanding”, even comparing him to Liz Cheney—which, in GOP circles, is about as brutal an insult as it gets. But Trump didn’t stop there. He’s calling for a primary challenge—and he’s ready to lead the charge himself.

Here’s what Trump said:

“Congressman Thomas Massie, of beautiful Kentucky, is an automatic ‘NO’ vote on just about everything, despite the fact that he has always voted for Continuing Resolutions in the past. HE SHOULD BE PRIMARIED, and I will lead the charge against him. He’s just another GRANDSTANDER, who’s too much trouble, and not worth the fight. He reminds me of Liz Cheney before her historic, record-breaking fall (loss!). The people of Kentucky won’t stand for it, just watch. DO I HAVE ANY TAKERS???”

That’s not just a warning—that’s a political smackdown.

Why Is Trump Going After Massie?

At the center of the feud is a stopgap funding bill aimed at preventing a government shutdown by March 15th. Speaker Mike Johnson is pushing the measure without Democrat support, and the House Freedom Caucus is backing it—but Massie is one of the loudest voices opposing it.

Normally, Massie aligns with the Freedom Caucus, but this time, he’s a hard ‘no.’ That’s not unusual for him—he’s one of the most libertarian-leaning members of Congress and has a history of bucking leadership, even when Trump was in office.

Some conservatives admire his consistency, while others see him as an obstructionist who enjoys making trouble.

Will Trump’s Attack Take Massie Down?

Here’s the reality: Trump’s endorsement carries massive weight in GOP primaries. Kentucky is a deep red state, and if Trump backs a challenger, Massie could be in serious trouble.

The Big Question

Is Massie standing on principle, or is he making life harder for conservatives trying to govern? Should he be primaried, or is Trump going too far?

One thing is for sure—this fight is just getting started.
