Trump to Sign Executive Order to Protect Elections!

President Trump announced Saturday that he will be signing a sweeping new executive order to restore trust in America’s elections, mandating voter ID requirements nationwide and rolling back widespread mail-in voting. The announcement, posted to his Truth Social account, was classic Trump: direct, decisive, and unapologetically focused on securing the ballot box.

“Voter I.D. Must Be Part of Every Single Vote. NO EXCEPTIONS! I Will Be Doing An Executive Order To That End!!! Also, No Mail-In Voting, Except For Those That Are Very Ill, And The Far Away Military. USE PAPER BALLOTS ONLY!!!” Trump wrote.

For years, Trump has championed election integrity, arguing that universal mail-in voting and lax ID laws invite fraud and destroy public confidence in the system. His new order is designed to eliminate those vulnerabilities by requiring all voters to present identification, restricting absentee ballots to the sick and military personnel overseas, and mandating paper ballots as the standard.

This is not Trump’s first attempt to impose voter ID by executive action. Earlier this year, Clinton-appointed Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly of the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C. struck down portions of a prior order, ruling that the President could not override Congress’s role in setting federal election laws. That setback hasn’t stopped Trump from trying again, and it’s clear he views election security as a top priority heading into 2026.

Polling shows the American people are firmly behind him. A Gallup survey conducted before the 2024 election found overwhelming support for both voter ID and proof of citizenship requirements. Eighty-four percent of U.S. adults backed voter ID, including 67 percent of Democrats, 84 percent of independents, and an overwhelming 98 percent of Republicans. On proof of citizenship for first-time registration, support was nearly identical, with broad bipartisan approval.

These numbers reveal what the political class doesn’t want to admit: voter ID isn’t some radical, right-wing idea. It’s a commonsense measure embraced by the vast majority of Americans, regardless of party. Other countries, including France, have abandoned mass mail-in voting precisely because it’s prone to abuse. Even former President Jimmy Carter once warned that mail-in ballots were the easiest path to election fraud.

As Trump told Breitbart News, “The system is corrupt. A mail-in ballot will always be corrupt. When you go to a polling location and they want your identification and everything … that’s the legit deal.”

The fight is far from over, but with this order, Trump is once again forcing the political class to confront a reality the voters already understand: without secure elections, nothing else in our democracy matters.
