The Left is having a collective meltdown—again. This time, it’s over President Trump appointing 22-year-old Thomas Fugate to temporarily lead the Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships (CP3) at the Department of Homeland Security. Apparently, letting a smart, hard-working young conservative run a bureaucratic office for a short period is now considered a national emergency.
The media, of course, is foaming at the mouth. ProPublica shrieked that Fugate is a “college kid” with no national security credentials. The Daily Beast ran with the oh-so-scandalous headline that Fugate used to mow lawns and stock shelves at H-E-B. Well, excuse the man for working an honest job instead of majoring in “Gender Studies for Social Equity” and marching in BLM protests on weekends.

Here’s what really happened: Fugate graduated magna cum laude with a degree in politics and law, interned with Texas lawmakers, worked at the Heritage Foundation (the Left’s favorite boogeyman), and joined President Trump’s 2024 campaign advance team. Now, he’s being recognized for solid work in DHS’s Immigration & Border Security suboffice and has been temporarily tasked with leading CP3 after the previous director bailed. That’s it. That’s the “crisis.”
But the Left can’t stand the idea that someone who didn’t come from the Harvard-Washington revolving door—and who actually supports Trump—could have a role in national security. So, they’re mocking his age, his LinkedIn profile, his eyebrow raise, and the fact that he worked in retail as a teenager. Translation: how dare a regular American be entrusted with any responsibility?
ProPublica and company are acting like CP3 is some top-secret command center, not a bloated grant office that’s been more focused on vague “hate prevention” efforts than actually stopping terrorists. The same crowd that ignored the open border and the rise of violent left-wing extremism now pretends CP3 is the final line of defense between us and chaos.
And let’s be honest: if Fugate were a 22-year-old liberal with purple hair, preferred pronouns, and a résumé stacked with “climate justice” organizing, CNN would be calling him the future of national security.
But he’s a Trump guy. So naturally, the media wants him dragged through the mud.
Here’s the truth: the swamp is terrified that a new generation of young conservatives is rising—smart, bold, unapologetic, and loyal to America First. That’s what this freakout is really about.
