House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries walked straight into a buzz saw on CNN this week, and the funny part is that the host didn’t even set him up. She just asked the one question Democrats have been trying to outrun ever since President Trump returned to office and actually enforced the law. Pamela Brown noted that illegal border crossings have collapsed and interior releases have essentially stopped. Then she hit him with the simplest question on earth: “Are you willing to give President Trump any credit for that?”
Jeffries did exactly what everyone expected. He launched into a long, rambling monologue about comprehensive immigration reform, bipartisan solutions, broken systems, and whatever else came to mind that wasn’t the actual question. He insisted Democrats support a secure border, which is funny considering the last administration treated the border like a revolving door at a shopping mall. He then tried to smear Trump by claiming Republicans targeted “law abiding immigrant families” and even tossed out the absurd line that American citizens are being deported. When your argument requires fantasy, you don’t have much of an argument.
Brown didn’t let him escape. She reminded him again that the Biden era saw record illegal crossings while Trump has shut the border down. Then she asked the same question, slower this time. “Can you give him credit for that?”
That was the moment Jeffries cracked. You could see the defeat move across his face. Finally, he muttered, “The border is secure. That’s a good thing. It’s happened on his watch. He wants to claim credit for it. Of course, he’ll get credit for that.” It was the political equivalent of being forced to congratulate the kid who got the job done after you spent years insisting it couldn’t be done.

And look, the numbers speak louder than any Democrat spin. As of December, the U.S. Border Patrol has reported zero releases of illegal aliens into the interior for seven straight months, from May through November 2025. That is because President Trump ended catch and release, shut down the CBP One app that let illegal migrants schedule their own entries, and restored deportation priorities. Simple policies with simple results.
Contrast that with the Biden era, where about 85 percent of the roughly 185,000 monthly border encounters were released into the country. That wasn’t immigration policy. That was a conveyor belt.
Jeffries can dance, dodge, and distract all he wants. At the end of the day, even he had to admit the truth. President Trump secured the border. Democrats just hated being reminded of it.
