Vice President JD Vance showed exactly how to deal with the whining corporate press on Wednesday when he smacked down a reporter in Minneapolis who questioned President Trump’s authority to strike a Venezuelan drug gang.
The exchange came just one day after Trump announced a direct hit on a Tren de Aragua trafficking boat. The vessel, loaded with drugs bound for the United States, was obliterated by U.S. forces, killing eleven members of what is widely considered one of the most brutal gangs in the Western Hemisphere. Trump released footage of the strike and followed up with a warning: “Please let this serve as notice to anybody even thinking about bringing drugs into the United States of America. BEWARE!”
While ordinary Americans cheered the decisive action, one reporter decided to nitpick about “legal authority.” Instead of focusing on the success of the mission, she pressed Vance to explain under what law Trump could order the strike.
Vance wasted no time setting her straight. “I’m sure there will be an after report,” he said. “As far as the legal authority, there are people who are bringing terrorists, who are bringing deadly drugs into our country. The president of the United States ran on a promise of stopping this poison from coming into our country. Another question?”

In other words, the authority is clear: the Commander-in-Chief has a sworn duty to protect America from enemies, foreign and domestic. Trump designated cartels like Tren de Aragua, MS-13, and Sinaloa as Foreign Terrorist Organizations on day one of his administration. That means they are not mere drug dealers; they are terrorists, and targeting them falls squarely within the president’s constitutional powers.
The reality is that under Joe Biden’s open-border disaster, gangs like Tren de Aragua spread like wildfire. The group became notorious last year for taking over apartment complexes and terrorizing communities while federal officials looked the other way. Trump’s strike is the exact opposite approach: stop the threat before it crosses our border and kills more Americans.
The press can whine all it wants, but most Americans see this as leadership. Trump promised to fight the cartels and keep deadly drugs out of our neighborhoods. This week, he delivered on that promise. And with Vance at his side, the administration is making it clear: they are not backing down.
