Another disturbing case of political extremism just crossed from rhetoric into real-world danger, and this time it targeted a sitting Trump cabinet official at his own home.
A Maryland man has been arrested on attempted m*rder charges after allegedly showing up at the residence of Russell Vought, armed not with a protest sign but with a manifesto and an apparent intent to k*ll. The suspect, 26-year-old Colin Demarco, was taken into custody by Arlington County Police on January 22 after he appeared at Vought’s Northern Virginia home wearing a surgical mask and gloves, a detail that should chill anyone paying attention.
According to court filings, Demarco is accused of plotting to m*rder a person identified as “R.V.,” later confirmed by sources to be Vought, the Director of the Office of Management and Budget under President Trump. Investigators believe Demarco’s visit to the home was not accidental or symbolic, but part of reconnaissance tied to an assassination plot.
Authorities say a Ring camera at the property captured Demarco on video months earlier, giving investigators a timeline that ultimately led to his arrest. He was taken into custody without incident and is currently being held pending further proceedings, with a court appearance scheduled for February 23, 2026. Prosecutors are pursuing attempted m*rder charges along with multiple additional felony counts.
What motivated Demarco is just as alarming as the act itself. Court records show he was fixated on so-called Project 2025, a policy wishlist drafted by the Heritage Foundation that Democrats spent much of the 2024 campaign hysterically branding as a blueprint for authoritarianism. Despite President Trump repeatedly distancing himself from Project 2025 and emphasizing his own Agenda 47 platform, Demarco allegedly became convinced that Trump’s reelection would trigger a “fascist takeover.”
That paranoia escalated into something far darker. According to CBS News, U.S. Marshals uncovered evidence that Demarco had been drafting a manifesto, along with notes referencing a weapons stash and even a so-called “Body Disposal Guide.” Let that sink in. This wasn’t an online troll blowing off steam. This was someone planning violence.
While no weapons were recovered at the scene and Demarco never made direct contact with Vought, the intent described in court documents is unmistakable. This wasn’t protest. This was preparation.
The arrest comes amid a broader surge in threats against Trump officials. White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and DHS Secretary Kristi Noem have reportedly relocated to military facilities after threats against their families.
For years, Democrats and their media allies have played fast and loose with apocalyptic language, branding political opponents as fascists, Nazis, and existential threats. This is where that road leads. When unstable individuals take that rhetoric literally, the consequences stop being theoretical.
Political disagreement is not an excuse for violence. And the growing pattern of threats against Trump officials should force a long-overdue reckoning with how recklessly some on the left talk about their opponents.
