Calls for Boycott Mount as Netflix Caught in SHADY Deal with Newsom

Netflix just put itself in the same camp as Bud Light and Cracker Barrel, burning bridges with a huge portion of its customer base for the sake of politics. The streaming giant is under fire after co-founder Reed Hastings dropped a staggering $2 million into California Governor Gavin Newsom’s redistricting campaign. For millions of Americans tired of Hollywood elites meddling in elections, this was the last straw.

Politico reported that Hastings’ money is key to the campaign for Proposition 50, a November ballot measure that would redraw California’s House districts in a way designed to push out Republicans. Newsom and his allies openly admit they want to counter Texas’ GOP-friendly map with a Democrat-engineered map in California. In other words, this is raw partisan gerrymandering dressed up as “fairness.” Hastings’ cash could help Democrats flip as many as six seats in 2026, a massive swing that would reshape Congress.

This is not Hastings’ first rodeo. He gave $3 million to help Newsom beat back his 2021 recall and has consistently bankrolled left-wing causes. Now, with Silicon Valley billionaires and unions pouring in millions, California has become ground zero in the national battle for the House. Conservative activist Charles Munger Jr. has already spent more than $10 million fighting the measure, making this one of the most expensive ballot fights in state history.

But here’s where it gets interesting. Regular Americans are not just shrugging it off anymore. Social media is full of angry Netflix users announcing they are canceling their subscriptions. They see Hastings’ donation as yet another example of big corporations siding with Democrats while ignoring half the country. It looks a lot like what happened to Bud Light, which tanked its brand by alienating its core customers.

To make matters worse, rumors spread that Netflix was cutting a $13.5 million deal with Stephen Colbert. While Netflix-focused outlets have debunked that as a hoax, the fact people found it believable tells you everything about where the company’s reputation sits. Too many people see Netflix not as a neutral entertainment platform but as another extension of the Democrat machine.

At a time when entertainment companies are struggling to keep subscribers, handing millions to Gavin Newsom looks less like business and more like political activism. And just like Bud Light learned the hard way, there is a cost to alienating your audience. For Netflix, the cancellations have already begun.
