A Florida woman is facing a disturbing felony charge after her husband reportedly discovered footage involving the family dog while reviewing a security camera installed inside their home.
Malia Elizabeth Nummerdor, 38, was arrested Tuesday in Charlotte County and charged with s*xual activity involving animals, a second-degree felony under Florida law.
According to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, investigators became aware of allegations circulating on social media accusing a woman of inappropriate s*xual activity with a pet. Detectives contacted the person responsible for making the allegations, obtained sworn statements and collected digital evidence from a surveillance system inside the residence.
That evidence reportedly originated with Nummerdor’s husband.
According to reports, he had installed cameras in the home because money had apparently been disappearing from a coin container. He reviewed recordings from a bedroom expecting to solve the mystery of the missing cash.
Instead, authorities say he discovered footage that led to a felony investigation involving the family dog.

The husband reportedly contacted deputies on September 14 and provided images from the recording. Investigators were also given access to the laptop containing the footage, allowing them to examine the original digital evidence rather than relying solely on allegations posted online.
Deputies interviewed Nummerdor the following day.
According to the sheriff’s office, Nummerdor acknowledged that she was the woman shown in the recording and confirmed that the animal was the family dog. She denied engaging in the activity with the animal and reportedly attempted to characterize what happened as something else.
Investigators said her explanation was inconsistent with what they believed the footage showed.
Nummerdor eventually requested an attorney, at which point investigators ended the interview.
The allegations have understandably attracted attention because of their disturbing nature, but Nummerdor has only been charged at this stage. She has not been convicted, and prosecutors will have to prove the allegations in court.
Reports indicate that everyone living inside the residence knew about the two security cameras. Nummerdor reportedly told investigators that she had merely been petting the dog, while detectives said her statements conflicted with the recorded evidence.
The case also prompted a strong reaction from Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell, who said he was nearly speechless after learning about the allegations. Prummell emphasized that animals should not be subjected to abusive conduct and said his department would investigate reports of animal abuse.
He also remarked on Nummerdor appearing to smile in her booking photograph following her arrest.
Under Florida law, this sort of activity involving animals can result in serious criminal penalties. The statute addresses specified s*xual conduct involving a person and an animal, including conduct performed for s*xual gratification.
Nummerdor was reportedly being held in the Charlotte County Jail on $35,000 bond following her arrest.
What began as a husband’s attempt to figure out who was allegedly taking money inside his home has now become a felony criminal case. The surveillance footage, sworn statements, original digital files and Nummerdor’s recorded interview are likely to become central pieces of evidence as prosecutors determine how to proceed.
The allegations are deeply disturbing, but the courtroom, rather than social media, is where the evidence will ultimately have to withstand scrutiny.
