Florida Governor Ron DeSantis just put the radical Left on notice again—and this time, it’s about your right to protect yourself behind the wheel. During a recent appearance on The Rubin Report, DeSantis defended Florida drivers’ right to flee dangerous mobs during riots—even if that means plowing through violent agitators blocking the road. Naturally, the media is losing its mind, but let’s be honest: the rest of America is nodding in agreement.
“If you’re driving on one of those streets and a mob comes and surrounds your vehicle and threatens you, you have a right to flee for your safety,” DeSantis said. “And so if you drive off and you hit one of these people, that’s their fault for impinging on you.”
Common sense, right? Not in today’s clown world where criminals are victims and law-abiding citizens are supposed to just sit in their cars while mobs swarm, pound on windows, and threaten lives. DeSantis isn’t having it. “You don’t have to sit there and just be a sitting duck and let the mob grab you out of your car and drag you through the streets,” he added. “You have a right to defend yourself in Florida.”

This isn’t just talk, either. Back in 2021, DeSantis signed the “Combating Public Disorder Act”, which gives civil immunity to drivers who injure or even kill rioters while fleeing for their safety. The law is clear: if three or more people are involved in a violent disturbance and a driver is acting with due care to escape danger, they are protected from civil lawsuits. It’s not a free-for-all, but it’s a much-needed safeguard for innocent people caught in chaos.
Of course, the usual suspects challenged the law in court. A federal judge blocked its enforcement, calling the language around what constitutes a “riot” too vague. The state has appealed, and the law’s future is still up in the air—but the message from DeSantis is unambiguous: mob rule will not fly in Florida.
With illegal immigration riots breaking out in cities across the country—including violent scenes in Los Angeles—this debate is more relevant than ever. While Democrat governors enable lawlessness, DeSantis is doing what governors are supposed to do: protect the rights of citizens, not the feelings of rioters.
If you’re in Florida, you can rest a little easier knowing your governor has your back—even if you’re behind the wheel.
Put a plow on the front of your and have at it !
