Hollywood actress Selma Blair was arrested after authorities said she became “physically abusive” aboard a Delta flight from Los Angeles to New York. The reported incident involved alleged attacks on flight attendants, a disputed claim that she tried to open the aircraft door, and additional allegations after the plane landed.
The flight was Delta 938, traveling from Los Angeles International Airport to John F. Kennedy International Airport on Sunday. Port Authority Police responded at about 11 p.m. after the aircraft reached the gate at JFK. Officials identified Blair, 54, as the allegedly abusive passenger and said she was taken into custody before being transported to a hospital for evaluation.
The first reports were startling. Blair allegedly tried to open an aircraft door while the plane was in the air, punched one flight attendant, and bit another. Two crew members reported injuries, and one was taken to a hospital. Delta later said it had no record of Blair attempting to open the door midflight, leaving investigators with an important detail to sort out.
TMZ reported that Blair was restrained aboard the aircraft. The outlet said one flight attendant suffered a laceration and another was bitten. TMZ also reported that Blair allegedly kicked a Port Authority police officer in the head while she was being taken to the hospital, then allegedly assaulted a nurse after arriving. Those additional allegations have not produced a public charging announcement.
The FBI is investigating the incident, but there was no immediate public announcement of federal charges. That distinction matters. An arrest and an investigation are not the same thing as a conviction, even when the allegations sound like a rejected scene from a very unpleasant airline reality show.
Blair’s representative said she experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct. According to the representative, Blair received immediate medical attention after landing and was in stable condition. No public explanation has identified the nature of that reported emergency.
Fox News reported the initial official details from investigators, including the injuries reported by the two flight attendants.
Delta condemned the reported behavior and said it has zero tolerance for “unruly behavior.” The airline also thanked its crew members for their professionalism. That is worth noting, because flight attendants are responsible for the safety of everyone aboard the aircraft, not for serving as punching bags when a passenger loses control. Celebrity status does not create a special exemption from basic rules, and an airplane cabin is a particularly bad place to test that theory.

Blair has appeared in films including Cruel Intentions, Legally Blonde, The Sweetest Thing, and the Hellboy series. She previously faced a highly publicized incident aboard a plane in 2016, when she was removed by stretcher after an outburst. She later apologized and attributed that episode to mixing alcohol with medication.
The current case involves reported injuries to two crew members, alleged assaults after landing, and an FBI investigation. Investigators will have to determine exactly what happened, what role any medical emergency played, and whether the additional allegations can be supported. Until then, the reported conduct remains allegations, but biting and punching flight crew members is hardly a routine passenger complaint.
