State Officials Reject Trump’s Pardon for Tina Peters Saying It Has No Legal Force

President Trump did what no one else in power was willing to do and stepped in for Tina Peters, a 69 year old Gold Star mother who has been rotting in a Colorado state prison for the unforgivable offense of questioning the 2020 election. On Thursday, President Trump granted Peters a full pardon, calling out Democrats for what this case has always looked like, political persecution dressed up as justice.

Peters, the former Mesa County Clerk and an outspoken election integrity advocate, is serving a nine year sentence on state charges tied to her efforts to examine voting systems after the 2020 election. She is elderly, reportedly in poor health, and lost a son who served this country. None of that mattered to the left. Last week, a magistrate judge tossed her habeas corpus petition aside, making it clear mercy was not on the menu.

President Trump did not sugarcoat his reasoning. In a Truth Social post, he said Democrats ignore violent crime while obsessively prosecuting anyone who dares challenge them politically. “Democrats only think there is one crime – Not voting for them!” he wrote, adding that Peters is sitting in prison for the “crime” of demanding honest elections. Trump called her a patriot and said the relentless targeting of her exposed exactly what the left’s priorities are.

That pardon sent Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser into a full blown media meltdown. Appearing on local television, Weiser raged that Trump’s action was “lawless” and had “no basis in American law.” Conveniently, this all happened while Weiser is running for governor, which surely has nothing to do with the performance. He insisted the pardon would not free Peters and bragged about suing President Trump “45 times and counting,” as if that were some kind of résumé highlight instead of a confession.

Weiser went even further, calling Peters’ legal arguments “total garbage” and accusing President Trump of bullying the state. According to him, Colorado plans to fight and resist, because apparently the rule of law only applies when Democrats are in charge of defining it. He even dragged Benjamin Franklin into the rant, which is usually a sign someone is trying very hard to sound noble while doing something deeply ugly.

President Trump had already called Weiser out back in May, accusing him of ignoring violent crimes by illegal aliens while throwing a peaceful grandmother behind bars. Trump labeled Peters an innocent political prisoner and described her punishment as cruel and unusual, the kind of language usually reserved for regimes Democrats claim to oppose.

The legal wrangling over state versus federal authority will play out in court, but the moral clarity of this moment is already obvious. A woman who tried to expose election problems was crushed by the system, while real criminals roam free. President Trump drew a line and said enough.

This case was never just about Tina Peters. It was about sending a message. President Trump answered with one of his own.
