Trump Scores Another Trade Victory—Canada Backs Down in Less Than 24 Hours
Another day, another win for President Trump—this time on the trade front. His latest opponent? Canada’s protectionist economic policies. After Trump threatened a 50% tariff on Canadian steel and aluminum, Ontario Premier Doug Ford folded almost immediately, announcing that Canada would suspend its 25% surcharge on electricity exports to the U.S.
Let’s be honest—Ford tried to put up a fight. He ran to MSNBC, threw a tantrum about Trump’s “unprovoked attack,” and warned that U.S. consumers would suffer. Classic globalist fear-mongering. But just hours later, he caved like a cheap lawn chair.
Why? Because Canada Can’t Win a Trade War With Trump
Trump played this flawlessly:
✅ First, he hiked tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum to 50%, instantly pressuring one of Canada’s biggest export sectors.
✅ Next, he called out Canada’s outrageous dairy tariffs—some as high as 390%—and made it clear that more tariffs were coming if Canada didn’t drop its protectionist nonsense.
✅ The knockout punch? Trump floated the idea of targeting Canada’s auto industry next—a move that would devastate Canada’s economy.
And just like that, Ford surrendered. The second Trump put Canada’s auto sector in his crosshairs, the fight was over. Ford wasn’t about to let that happen—so he scrambled to drop the electricity surcharge, giving Trump exactly what he wanted without any concessions in return.

Why Trump’s Trade Strategy Works
For decades, weak U.S. politicians let foreign countries walk all over us, accepting lopsided trade deals that harmed American workers. Trump changed the game. He’s using tariffs as leverage, making it clear that if other countries exploit the U.S., they’ll pay the price. And guess what? It works.
Ford’s backpedaling proves it—no country, not even our “friendly” northern neighbor, can afford to ignore Trump’s economic warnings.
And this is just the beginning. With more trade negotiations coming, including USMCA revisions, you can bet that Trump will keep fighting for American workers and industries.
The left will whine about ‘trade wars’ and cry about ‘economic instability’, but here’s the reality: Trump just forced Canada to back down in less than 24 hours.
That’s called winning.
