Democrat Lawmaker to Face Federal Charges for ICE Assault—DOJ Lowers the Boom

Democrat Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) is expected to be charged by the Department of Justice as early as today for physically assaulting federal immigration agents at the Delaney Hall ICE facility in Newark last Friday, in what is rapidly becoming one of the most shocking scandals to hit Congress in recent memory.

According to The New Jersey Globe, multiple sources have confirmed that interim U.S. Attorney Alina Habba — a Trump administration appointee known for her no-nonsense approach to law enforcement — is preparing to formally bring charges against the freshman Democrat lawmaker. McIver is expected to turn herself in later today and will be represented by Paul Fishman, former U.S. Attorney under Barack Obama.

The incident in question unfolded when McIver, along with other Democrat lawmakers and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, stormed the Delaney Hall detention facility under the pretext of an “inspection.” But what was supposed to be a visit quickly devolved into a chaotic confrontation between lawmakers and federal agents.

ICE bodycam footage obtained and released shows Rep. McIver — easily identifiable in a red jacket — not only screaming profanities but physically attacking agents. At one point, she is seen pushing and shoving ICE officers, violating multiple federal statutes that prohibit interference with law enforcement operations.

But it wasn’t just physical. The footage also captured McIver threatening the careers of the agents on-site, shouting, “I touch whoever I want, motherf**ker!” in what many are calling one of the most disgraceful public meltdowns ever documented on a sitting member of Congress.

The fallout has been swift. Interim U.S. Attorney Alina Habba vowed a thorough investigation just days after the incident, and today’s expected charges show that she wasn’t bluffing. The Biden Justice Department might have looked the other way, but under President Trump’s second term, law and order is back — and even elected officials aren’t above it.

The question now: will House Democrats condemn one of their own, or will they circle the wagons around another lawmaker behaving like a street thug instead of a public servant?

If charges are brought, McIver could face serious legal consequences, including obstruction of justice and assault on federal officers. And if Republicans follow through on threats to pursue a censure or expulsion vote, her days in Congress may be numbered. Accountability is finally knocking — and it’s long overdue.
