Well, well, well… looks like Chuck Schumer and the Democrat shutdown circus might’ve backfired big time. While they were busy trying to hold the government hostage to protect Ukraine aid and keep the southern border wide open, they accidentally pulled back the curtain on something they probably hoped Americans wouldn’t notice: just how massive the food stamp program has become — and who exactly is using it.
Back in the day, food stamps were for struggling American families who hit a rough patch. You lost your job, had an emergency, and needed a little help to put food on the table for your kids. Totally understandable. It was meant to be temporary and targeted. Then, of course, the Left got their hands on it. They rebranded it “SNAP” (because if you give it a nicer acronym, it’s no longer welfare, right?) and launched full-blown marketing campaigns to destigmatize it.
What was once a safety net turned into a lifestyle.
Now here we are, during this government shutdown, and the USDA is warning that over 40 million people are about to lose or receive reduced SNAP benefits if the shutdown continues. Let me repeat that — 40 million. That’s more than the entire population of California. The program is so bloated that it requires $8 billion every month just to function.
And while that’s shocking enough on its own, the real kicker is what we’re learning about who is collecting these benefits. According to Overton News and other sources, a huge percentage of SNAP recipients aren’t even American citizens. Not exaggerating here — we’re talking about 59% of illegal aliens receiving food stamps. How is that even possible?

- 42% of Somali immigrants
- 34% of Iraqis
- 23% of Haitians

And this is what the Democrats are digging in to protect? We’re bankrupting taxpayers to hand out benefits to people who aren’t even citizens — many of whom came here illegally — while working-class Americans struggle to afford groceries thanks to Bidenflation.
This government shutdown didn’t just reveal political dysfunction — it exposed the rot at the core of our welfare state. It showed us how far we’ve strayed from prioritizing American citizens and how the Left has weaponized welfare to support an open-borders agenda.
Now that the cat’s out of the bag, Americans are paying attention.
