President Trump scored a major legal win this week, and the Democrats—especially out in California—are not handling it well. A federal judge just tossed out California’s lawsuit challenging President Trump’s tariffs, delivering a solid blow to Governor Gavin Newsom and his attorney general sidekick, Rob Bonta. They thought they could use the famously liberal U.S. District Court in Northern California to block Trump’s trade agenda. Turns out, that court isn’t even the right place to hear the case.
U.S. District Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley agreed with Trump’s legal team that the lawsuit doesn’t belong in her court. She didn’t outright transfer it, but she tossed it altogether, saying it should be heard by the U.S. Court of International Trade—where cases involving tariffs actually belong. You’d think California officials could read the Constitution or at least a jurisdiction map, but apparently not.
Now, this wasn’t a full-blown ruling in favor of President Trump’s tariffs—yet—but it’s a huge step in shutting down the Democrats’ latest courtroom circus. Instead of getting a liberal judge to slap down Trump’s trade policies, Newsom and Bonta are being forced to start over in a more appropriate venue. And judging by how the U.S. trade courts have handled similar cases, their chances of success just got a lot slimmer.
Let’s not forget what this is really about. Trump’s tariffs were part of a broader strategy to protect American workers and industries from countries like China that have taken advantage of us for decades. He invoked the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to deal with massive trade deficits that truly do harm our national economy. But to Democrats like Newsom, anything that puts America first must be illegal, dangerous, or “anti-democratic.”
Newsom’s office tried to save face, calling the ruling “procedural.” Sure, and the Titanic had a “water problem.” The truth is, this is a legal setback for the left, plain and simple. They wanted an activist judge to hand them a win they couldn’t get at the ballot box. Instead, they got sent packing.
Now they’re appealing to the Ninth Circuit, the same court that usually rubber-stamps progressive legal nonsense. But even then, jurisdiction isn’t something you can just wish away because you don’t like President Trump’s policies. This is the left’s playbook: lose on substance, whine about process, and keep the lawsuit carousel spinning.
Too bad for them, Trump plays to win—and this time, the court just backed him up.
Who are the people governing our nation, out elected officials or the courts? Perhaps the democrat party is using the courts as surrogates to thwart the will of the people.
At least one judge made the right decision.
Victory Hooray
It’s past time we put the Democrats out of our misery.
