Federal authorities are investigating a chilling case out of Utah after two men were accused of planting an explosive device under a Fox 13 news vehicle in Salt Lake City. The incident unfolded just days after Charlie Kirk’s assassination at Utah Valley University, raising tensions in the state even higher.
According to the New York Post, the suspects are 58-year-old Adeeb Nasir and 31-year-old Adil Justice Ahme Nasir, who allegedly placed an incendiary device beneath a media vehicle that was parked under an occupied building on Friday. Police say the device was lit but failed to ignite, potentially averting a far more serious outcome.
Adeeb Nasir, 58, and Adil Justice Ahmed Nasir, 31, were arrested in Magna, Utah, after their bomb placed under a FOX 13 News vehicle failed to detonate.

The FBI quickly took over once the device was confirmed to be genuine. Within 48 hours, agents had traced the device back to the Nasirs and raided their Magna home, located less than an hour from where Kirk was killed. What they found inside was disturbing: mock explosive devices, illicit drugs, materials to build additional devices, and two firearms that the suspects were barred from owning due to drug use.
During questioning, both men claimed the devices were real, triggering a full evacuation of the neighborhood and forcing law enforcement to initiate emergency disposal procedures. Fortunately, authorities later determined the recovered items were fakes. But the false claim alone escalated the already tense situation.
Adeeb Nasir, who is originally of Pakistani origin, now faces serious charges including two counts of constructing weapons of mass destruction and two counts of threat of terrorism. He has been booked into Salt Lake County Jail without bail. Charges against Adil have not yet been finalized, though both men were living in the same residence at the time of their arrest.
The fact that the explosive was planted under a news station vehicle adds another layer of concern. Media outlets have increasingly become targets amid the country’s polarized political climate. Fox 13 Station Manager Leona Wood released a statement emphasizing employee safety and confirming the outlet is working closely with law enforcement.
This incident is still unfolding, but the implications are unsettling. A failed bombing attempt in the middle of a city, just days after the high-profile killing of one of the nation’s leading conservative activists, is enough to raise questions about whether extremists are looking to escalate chaos further. For now, the FBI and local authorities continue to dig into the Nasirs’ motives and connections, while Utah braces for answers.
