Bigfoot stories are one of those uniquely American traditions that somehow refuse to die, right alongside gas station beef jerky, UFO documentaries at 2 a.m., and your uncle insisting he almost pitched for the Yankees before “the knee injury.” Everybody has an opinion on Sasquatch. Some people laugh it off immediately. Others swear these giant hairy creatures are wandering forests across the country avoiding trail cameras with what appears to be CIA-level operational discipline.
Now a retired U.S. Army sergeant is adding his own story to the legend, and he sounds absolutely convinced that what he saw in Oregon back in 1993 was real.
Todd Neiss recently appeared on FOX News to describe an encounter he says completely changed his life. According to Neiss, he was participating in a military training exercise in the Oregon Coast Range when he and several fellow soldiers spotted three massive creatures watching them from a distance.
And no, according to him, this was not some blurry glimpse through the trees after a late-night poker game and a suspicious amount of cheap whiskey.

Neiss claims the encounter lasted about 25 seconds but left a permanent impact on him. He said the creatures stood between seven and nine feet tall and had physical features unlike normal humans.
“Their silhouette was completely disproportionate in terms of the arm length and even the length of the legs as it pertains to a human torso,” Neiss explained during the interview.
That is the thing about Bigfoot stories. The people telling them are often dead serious. They are not grinning through the story waiting for a punchline. They genuinely believe they saw something unusual.
Neiss even admitted he used to mock the idea of Bigfoot before his alleged encounter. Now he serves as the head of the American Primate Conservancy, which sounds either like a fascinating research organization or the setup for the greatest History Channel marathon ever created.
According to Neiss, the creatures had human-like faces covered in hair and appeared extremely athletic. Which honestly makes sense if Bigfoot has spent decades sprinting through forests while avoiding hunters, drones, park rangers, and every guy named Earl carrying a camcorder.
The timing of the interview also grabbed attention because there have reportedly been new Bigfoot sightings in Ohio. Of course, every few months another sighting seems to pop up somewhere in rural America. At this point Bigfoot has allegedly been seen in enough states to qualify for an electoral map.
Skeptics point out the obvious problems. In an era where nearly every human being carries a high-definition camera in their pocket, it is remarkable that Bigfoot footage still looks like it was filmed using a potato wrapped in duct tape. No bones, no bodies, no definitive evidence, just endless grainy videos and stories from hunters who definitely saw “something huge” in the woods.
Still, stories like Neiss’s endure because people love mystery. There is something fun about the possibility that maybe, just maybe, there are still things out there we cannot fully explain.
And if someone truly believes they stared directly at a nine-foot-tall creature in the Oregon wilderness, good luck talking them out of it. Especially after 30 years.
